Hi Danny- I don’t know if you will remember me, but back in ’68 you came out to Suffolk Community College a couple of times and played at anti-war demonstrations I had organized. We kind of hit it off, and you kindly invited me to your apartment in the east village ( if I remember right). I brought along my B-12, and we sat around for a while playing tunes. At one point we switched guitars… I was a lousy guitarist, and could barely play some twelve
bar blues, while you ripped a fine lead… You then pulled out of your pocket some lyrics
wriiten on a scrap of paper, in pencil. You handed them to me and asked my opinion.
You had no idea of the way you made me feel, honored to be with you and treated as a friend. I remember how you thought it was strange that I had the same name as the folk
singer, and thought it would be fun to get us together. That never happened, as we drifted our different ways. I still have that gibson, and the memory of being your friend, if only for a short while. Thanks

P.S. I have a photo I took of you while you were playing at Suffolk. If you would like I could send it along to you..
hi danny so glad to here from you. i proceeded to erase your info on my machine. was away in calf. on a mini vacation. i sent an email to danny kalb@yahoo.com and another danny kalb answered and led me to this website. you have been very busy, i see. great writeups. would love to see you perform during the daylight hrs on a sunday?. let me know if anything is planned in the future. all is fine here. still with my boyfriend who i love dearly and still working in antiques and busy with my three grandchildren. keep in touch and let me know. talk soon love terri your cuz.
My name is Jan ‘Bas’ Johansen, I am a Jazz and Blues radio presenter for Riviera FM a community radio based in Torbay on the English Riviera, the county of Devon in the Southwest of England, where I have a substantial following. We also broadcast live via the internet and I have also there a wide audience.
My background – I am a jazz and blues aficionado and a former jazz musician (Clarinet and Double Bass) I began playing Dixieland during the 1950′s revival which was the direct reason that our band Hamlet Jazzmen were invited to front the great Memphis Slim when he together with Sonny Boy Williamson (Aleck Rice Miller) visited my home town of Elsinore in Denmark in February 1958. After their show Memphis Slim asked if we would like to jam for a bit and not until some 5 hours later did we finally go home and I must add in a state of elation. Later i jammed with some of the absolute greatest musicians of the 1960s including Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, in Denmark and during 2 years when I was on board Norwegian America Lines Oslo Fjord and Saga Fjord where we were based in New York, when I was a frequent visitor to 52 Street, the Village and Harlem and jammed with both George Benson, Herbie Mann, Illinois Jacquet, Hamp and many others. I have had many, many friends within the world of jazz, whose friendship I have treasured, but sadly most of them now play in “the great jazz club in the sky”.
I operate in a totally different way to most other jazz and blues presenters in so far that I weave the music I play round Biographical material. I have found that my audience like this as it gives them an idea as to who the artist is.
Although I have a substantial library of some 15.000 tracks of Jazz and about 1500 tracks of Blues and mostly pre 1970 as such I would very much like to expand these two areas with more contemporary jazz and blues artists. I would therefore appreciate if you would consider sending me some of your music – It has to be hard copy (CD’s) as this is what the PRS insist upon and then naturally you would be entitled to your royalties
In addition to a vast general listener base in the UK and Europe I have also contact with promoters and festival organisers across the UK and Europe, which it naturally would be a pleasure for me to help you reach at no cost. I am a radio presenter not an agent. I very much believe in “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” if you help me by sending me your music I will help you by playing it and what else may follow.
I the hope that this is acceptable to you I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience

Hi Danny you probably don’t remember me but we are on the Kutabawado LP @ Mercury studios around 1970 w/Richard and Susan Minsky and others, Gerry Jackson’s book of colors and poetry, score by Minsky. Well Richard just had the original tapes made into an mp3 and a cd and want’s to send it to you and all involved. You can contact him at minsky@minsky.com. Are you in NY would be great to jam,i play sax and guitar. Take care Danny. Nick. PS besides being a great guitarist you have a great speaking voice.
II met you many years ago at Tramps in New York City when they were on East 16th Street. At the time, I was the stage manager there and I worked frequently with your brother, Jonathan. I just picked up a Blues Project Anthology CD and I find myself listening to it as I am writing you here. We need more Jewish Bluesmen! In revisiting your 60′s output, I realize just how authentic the music was and how it paid appropriate tribute to the past masters from where it came. Imagine that happening today! Like you, I caught the blues bug in high school but never really played in public. I truly admire you for doing so all these years.

Out of the blue a friend sent me the link that told me of your upcoming visit to Johnny D’s in Somerville. My wife and I have already booked a table and I look forward to seeing / hearing you. For decades “Two Trains Runnin” has had a grab on me- whatever it is that you are playing these days, I look forward to your visit.
A long time fan.
So it’s been about 20 yrs. since our last phone call…just felt like ‘touching base’ w/ you…you still remain in my thoughts & I miss you at times. In my recent travels around the internet, I came across past & present events of your life…so sorry to hear of your stroke, but knowing what I remember of you, I’m sure you’ve either fully recovered or are on the way. Looks like you’re doin well w/ your music…you seem to be everywhere these days…gigs, radio, etc…I’ve seen you on a few YouTube videos…better than ever!…eagerly looking forward to your new CD.
Nancy & I are still a lovin couple & pretty much active… doin our counseling + volunteer work for this blessed community of Woodstock…Brian is married to Julie…both loving parents to an 8 yr old son, Jonathan (great kid…my grandson!).

Wishing you only good things as you keep on keepin on…and sharing w/ us all the best that music has ever had to offer.
Danny, Hi-
Have seen you several times, mostly at the Towne Crier in Pawling NY, with and without Steve Katz, and of course back in the days of the Bottom Line.
Have all your solo releases, as well as Blues Project and was hoping you would be taking the current tour up to the Towne Crier.
Please let me know.
On the the New Stranglers album, a photo of you and Sam Charters are shown sitting at the base of a lamp post, perhaps photoshopped (pre-computer days) on the roof of a building. In the background there’s a city….Is that Coney Island?
Hey Danny-just spent a great morning listening to your wonderful heartfelt blues and then ordered your latest CD.I felt such a strong nostalgia for our old carefree days at Lincoln Farm and am constantly astounded at how time collapses in an instant. I hope to see you soon at one of your shows.love Jackie
